I'm convinced Adele's tribute wasn't meant to be a crowd pleaser. She slowed down Fastlove's feel good grooves and drew our attention to the lyrics which are George's very honest self appraisal. He was a tragic figure and she mourned him by peering through the facade of one of his finest songs. Certainly brought water to my eyes.

Good for the family! George said many times how much he admired Adele's talent.

I have watched it a couple of times and it just keeps getting better... it really sinks in and the lyrics make perfect sense... a brilliant choice! Bless her.

I loved it. very beautiful, very moving. who cares about the start over bit...like someone said before, it was all very George in a way. I'm sure he had a eye roll with a laugh when it happened. end result was fantastic.

as for prince.....I felt like that was not the right kind of tribute. The Time got 2 songs???? Bruno looked like he got his costume from Party City. really hoped for more on that performance.

If she did say 'you' she may have been talking to George in her mind..

Remember she's also been a fan since she was young.

I do have to say I loved the arrangement personally. It brought out the real meaning beneath the lyrics for me, and being that most Americans watching have never even heard that song, it was an interesting choice, so it's nice that rather than, 'why did she sing a song nobody knows' she was applauded for it.

I'd have much, much rather heard George singing fastlove in a beautiful variation of piano and string arrangement like that, but, sadly we can't now.

P.s. I don't think anyone would've done him justice, really.

Hmm. I don't recall saying she was insincere. As a North American George fan watching it, it seemed to come off as more about adele - particularly in the media reports after. George isn't mentioned at all. I'm not alone in this on other sites but seem to be here, so I will let this go now.

I must one of the very few to hate it. I can't pretend to remotely like it.

She made it all about her & her drama. Her display when winning album of year later just made it worse. I couldn't bother to watch the entire thing.

I won't deny she has vocal skills. She is very popular right now so I guess she's the first to come to the family's mind it's a shame popularity won out. Music talent is scarce these days so she is overly revered. The song choice was awful. Billboard's explanation is lame PC BS. This was a tribute or a political social propaganda? There were far better songs available it did not showcase George's true talent imo. Very underwhelming tribute for a musician like George.

She dressed as him for her birthday a few years ago! George had liked her, and she's been very popular for years and years. She's also a songwriter. She's also a celebrity that seems to be able to stay out of trouble and lead a fairly normal life.

Political social propaganda? Fastlove?

Did you read her explaination of why she chose it? It was her first song/video memory of him as a kid.

Nobody has to like the performance. But made it all about her? She was the only one approved of by GMs family to do this.. and she's British so I'm sure she's aware of all the sad, awful things going on in the wake of his death. Talk about pressure. Maybe she just really wanted to get it right and is an emotional person.

@insinceire remark, I guess the word came to mind as to the stuff about it being about her vs him/diva behavior. I think it was just because she wanted to get this right and wasn't just going to sing off-key. And that was her natural reaction.

I also agree it was very George in a way.

I like the tribute overall, although I think that GM's other songs like Pray For Time would be a better choice than FastLove.

I like Adele''s voice as it's very emotional and unique. I feel though choice of song was poor due to her interpretation in making it into a tragic dark ballad. I know GM produced some very moving personal songs but this was wasn't one. He deliberately as a producer wanted it as an upbeat/dance track.. He should be remembered for someone who despite challenges did have a great love for life. THE tone of this song was mawkish suggesting he is a tragic figure which is a disservice to George.

thx for the link she was talking about it on the press conference:
Adele in TV Radio Room After Winning Album, Record and Song of the Year | 59th GRAMMYs

starts at 3:09
she is very direct and emotional and seems to be very nervous - many talk a lot then...
