There is no reason for anybody to feel offended or to leave the forum at the suggestion that other threads and subforums be used for discussion. It really does make topics easier to follow.

And for those who didn't realize there were other threads, there are 10+ years of very well organized music and picture threads maintained by the webmaster.

Offended, definitely not!
Confused, yes. (at least me - I'm speaking for myself)
There was a certain spontaneity to this thread.

(Yes, I was aware of the existence of other threads)
As fans, a lot of us are still going through the period of trying to come to terms with what has happened. So the emotions and the thoughts have been flooding within us and these resulted in numerous posts, as a form of expression. I think this diversity in topics - within the same thread - is a result of the fact that all this is still very recent.

Let's say we are discussing the news (the TV documentary, Fadi's tweets, etc); as we discuss Fadi, who is in the news, someone else - on the same subject - mentions Kenny and his relationship with George, which, in theory, should be in "remembering George". This is just an example. It is not easy to separate these. This is what I'm saying. In a natural conversation this doesn't happen.

In any case, thank you for this post. As administrators, you are like "gods" in our little universe, appearing from time to time and restoring order.

I will still have to see how I'll deal with my confusion and the use of other threads.

It's for admin to say how this forum is used. In the past if there was a better thread for a post it would be moved. However I think it's difficult for them now because posts contain lots of different issues. Perhaps there should be one thread that allows members just to express feelings about their love for George. Then everything else can be more specific. I love reading posts but of late I've found myself skipping them because there are so many different issues raised. We go from the ch 5 documentary to Fadi to general features about George and his music. This makes it difficult to assimilate a particular point to make and as a result I don't bother. This may be okay for some but I find it too time consuming to digest! But that's just me.

In case anyone here missed it , I started a Remembering George thread in General discussion this will be the same idea of what we have been enjoying here . Georgeforever - I understand your points and I also understand this was set up as news so if we all shift over we can carry on .. The only thing we talked about not including would be future releases , legacy since they started a new thread on that . Does this sound good to you? Hope you and everyone else will come over .

Guys, if you look around you'll see that this forum has a thread for almost everything that you keep posting about here. This is is the "news" section for news. It would be great if you would post in the proper threads and not make this news section an endless comment flow. This is not the Facebook or Twitter or other social media where you have to have one long comment session.
Please use the forum as it is: a forum. Post your things/opinion in the right sections in the right threads.

I read all the FAQ's and tried using the search button but it came up with very few threads. I was searching for a thread on GM and Andrew's great friendship. I would seriously think that has been a thread topic over the years but nothing came up. Can you advise please?

Anything ( houses sold , FF , ..) new comes up that will go to this news thread, and new music talk the legacy thread , all the other feelings, thoughts, memories and anything else we have been freely flowing with is welcome at Remembering George. Hope this helps and see you there

Isn't new music something that would appear in the news?

Suppose so but since they've made a thread for it and it won't be released often that can go in to that thread

I dont mean to be contenious but why are certain members trying to argue the toss with administration? News thread is when something actually happens and our responses to that.
Discussion is general thoughts and analysis or ideas where you can talk about as many subjects you wish to do with George. Administration have thoroughly catered for all members. I understand there may be a bit of crossover but lengthy posts are very hard to follow.

I have one specific question about something that is very important for the future: The possible release of new material.

I have written about it previously but as we’ve been discussing the correct use of the forum, that post of mine is now quite a few pages back.
(This is the post: http://georgemichaelforums.com/showp...postcount=1448)
I am repeating a part of it here, as I am hoping that other members can possibly have ideas on this subject or answer the relevant questions.

The possibility of new material from George
I do wonder and I hope that this can happen. We know that George was working on new material.

When George released songs, it was his way of communicating with his fans (and with the public in general, of course). So in the months before his passing, he intended to do that again. Those songs were meant for us.
It’s like someone who has written a letter for a specific person , but then died and never had the chance to give the letter. So the envelope is left lying in a drawer. Shouldn’t the intended recipient be given that? Can we have our “envelope”? (it’s got our names on it!)

Imagine listening to new material from George. It will be like getting a belated message from him to us. It will be heart-breaking and very touching but also amazing.
OK, we are not entitled to know too much about his personal life, to know the details and the exact causes of his death… But we are entitled to his songs. Theoretically. Because in practice, it is another story.
How difficult is it for new material to be released?
If this goes ahead, who is involved?
1) Definitely, the record company, as it would be logical.
2) I’m assuming that in order to ensure a decent end result, the people involved should be those who collaborated closely with George in producing/arranging, as they would know how he worked and they would respect/honour his approach to his work. It’s the closest we can get to what George would have done for the songs that are not ready – besides, some songs may actually be ready.
3) Finally, I mentioned in a previous post that I thought that the family would have to give their consent for any material to be released.

When I wrote that, another member gave me an interesting reply:
Quote:

freek makes a very good point. George’s family is not involved in this business.
[They would only help - but that, of course, doesn't count as being part of the music industry. For example, when I saw George in a "25 LIVE" concert, I bought the book and in it there is a long list of people involved (stage manager, lighting, etc) and there I can see his sister's name "Melanie Panayiotou" written next to "Merchandise Design". But as I said, this doesn't count as being part of the music industry.]

I only mentioned the family with regard to the release of new material, because I thought of them as the "next of kin", who are normally the people to whom a property is bequeathed (material property, houses, etc).

And then I drew a parallel and I thought that George's music is intellectual property and therefore - similarly to his material property - after his passing, it would be his family who would have a say over what can or should be done with it (the royalties, the possible releases, etc). What if George stated clearly that no material could ever be released without his approval? What if the family are now in charge of observing such wishes?

I don’t know if I’m right or wrong on this one. Is it possible that no new material can be released? I wonder if anyone can have any idea or can shed some light on this matter.

GMFan87, I appreciate your replies very much. Thank you!

Just to let you know, I have written the above post about new material here, because I had written something similar a few pages back in this same thread, so I needed to refer to it. All the best to you!

After being really down the last few days, that made me smile Sorry. "it wont be released often" GM ever the perfectionist spent years on his records. On a radio interview, I heard David Austin say he met a Sony exec on a flight to NY once. The guy asked him what GM was working on. David told him on the "December Song" which David co-wrote with GM. And the exec asked him how many years would it take for the song to be released. I am roughly paraphrasing here. Oh GM !! Loved him for all his quirks and imperfections as much as for his excellence
"December Song" along with "This is Not Real Love" are underrated gems that deserve a larger audience

There's only 1 factor that matters in whether the material will be released.

And that's whether the estate owner wants it to be released. I don't know who the estate owner is/will be but it would be reasonable to assume it's George's sisters and possibly his father. It could be many more months before probate is completed and decisions can be made.

Their decision would come down to whether George would have wanted it released. I would imagine David Austin will be a big part of that yes/no decision and also in choosing which songs. It's irrelevant what they know about the business side of things.

Record companies, executives and producers needed to finish recordings/mixes (if David doesn't do it) will fall over themselves. There will be plenty of help available. That said I don't think they will release anything that isn't 100% finished already in George's own hand.

My best guess is we will see 1 new album of original material and then the door will be closed. I don't think they will want to spend the rest of their lives watching over this and turning it into a carnival of releases.

I think it will be very harsh on the fans and George's legacy if we see nothing. But if George had already issued an instruction it will be adhered to and it could well be no releases. Difficult one really. I shall expect nothing but hope for that 1 album. Maybe 12-18 months after his passing.
