Default "Oh I’ll be free, just like that bluebird, Oh I'll be free . . ."

A true legend passed away yesterday. While battling cancer over the last 18 months he recorded/released a critically lauded album days before his untimely death, produced and co-directed a critically praised off Broadway production ‘Lazarus’, and released two videos for the new album.

The video for ‘Lazarus’, released only last week, now obviously references his departure from this world as we see him disappearing at the end into a ‘portal'. Stirring stuff indeed. A legend like Bowie we will simply never see again. His parting gift and words below . . .

Love the experimentation with the sax on the album. Great on Lazarus. Title track still the pick of the bunch for me.

It just feels strange - as it felt strange when he didn't pay tribute to Whitney Houston. But Bowie was an influence for him and he clearly adored Wild Is The Wind. I'd rather read a Tweet from him about Bowie than the fluff about a new Freedom 90 vinyl, which was put out before Christmas. The most elegant response - if he were well enough and able - would be to record a Bowie cover, at the same speed as he did You & I for the royal wedding, and just put it out there.

Yep I raised the same question on another thread - he mentioned his admiration on several occasions publicly for Bowie, covered his tracks, lauded his talent, recognized the influence his music had on his own ambitions, etc. - it would be an appropriate gesture at this time to say something, even just a tweet.

Makes you ask the question under what circumstances would George not want to say something at this time? Is he too choked up at the moment? Did he have some kind of private grievance with the man which was never publicised? Or is he just too ill at the moment to say anything? Some other reason???

I can't remember though... did he release a tribute at the time of Freddie Mercury's death, or Michael Jackson's? I'm not sure he did - maybe it's not his style.

Yes, would have thought a simple tweet. Very strange. Makes you wonder who in fact operates the twitter account these days!

There is something on @georgemofficial but it's a short video not a quote.
